Golf Ball Mortar

I have done some test on my Coehorn Mortar built to 30% of scale to shoot Golf Balls. This makes the bore in proper scale with the Mortar, otherwise not under bored as with the Soda Pop can Mortars.
Will be doing more testing and results given at the time. With 130 grs. of Goex ffg Powder I was shooting 424 yds. The velocity was fast enough we could not see the ball in flight. The best part of firing Mortars is to watch the projectial in flight.
More info as more testing is completed.

I'm watching this. It looks like you have reached the upper limits, now find the working limits.

As soon as time allows I plan on testing for the working limits. Yesterday we did some more test firings for range, with 130 Grs. of ffg Goex we were getting 400 yds. We could see the ball in flight most of the time, the light was better than the day before. People always ask what the range is, so it is good to know the limits. As far as having fun I tell them to put out a tub of water out 75 yds or so and invite your friends over. The last one to make a splash with the ball buys the pop and pizza.
Will give updates when the testing continues.

It's all I can do to get 30 grains of powder in my GB Mortar.

I built the Mortar to specs. I'll have to recheck my plans. The power chamber should be scaled to the proper size. In a week or two I hope to have more time to test. Have a family reunion this weekend, maby we can do test firing on the edge of the lake.
