10 Pounder Parrott Field Rifle
From Neff Cannons
Robert P. Parrott designed and patented the Parrot rifles. The M1861 has a bore of 2.9 inches and a muzzle swell. In 1863, Parrott redesigned the gun with a 3 inch bore and no muzzle swell. The breech was reinforced with a wrought iron band. After heavy use the Parrots were known to burst in front of the reinforcing band. The confederacy had their own copy of Parrot field rifles. A total of 587 10-pounder Parrotts were purchased by the federal government.
